A ustralia’s star all-rounder, Cameron Green on Thursday, 14 December revealed that he has been battling a chronic illness since his birth. While speaking on 7 Cricket, he revealed that he has been suffering from a chronic kidney disease, a condition which was identified during his mother, Bee Tracey’s pregnancy.
In an interview on 7 Cricket, Green revealed that his parents were informed of this condition at the time of his birth, which even his mother talks through. However, he clarified that there aren’t any symptoms, it was just diagnosed through ultrasounds. “When I was born, I had chronic kidney disease. Chronic kidney disease is basically a progressive disease of your kidney’s health function,” he said.
However, talking through it, he clarified that he is battling the second stage at the moment. “Unfortunately, mine doesn’t filter the blood as well as other kidneys. They’re at about 60% at the moment which is stage two.”
Further adding he said that he has handled it effectively throughout his sporting career with one of the key moments coming during an ODI series against New Zealand. “I think it was pretty well documented that I had a pretty long day of bowling and a pretty long bat a well, and then had a cramping episode,” Green added.
“I consider myself very lucky that I’m not as affected physically by chronic kidney disease as other people who are affected by the same thing,” he continued. Speaking on the stages of the chronic illness, he added, “With chronic kidney disease there’s five stages, with stage one being the least severe, and stage five being transplant or dialysis. Fortunately, I’m stage two, but if you don’t look after them enough, it goes back down.”
