T he Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) hosted the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Sunday, April 21 in IPL 2024.  After inviting KKR to bat first, the side posted 222 runs in their stipulated 20 overs. While keeper-batter Phil Salt gave the Kolkata-based franchise a brisk start up the order with his 14-ball 48, skipper Shreyas Iyer also played an anchor role with his well-made 50.

The Faf du Plessis-led side took the field in pursuit of the 223-run target, the former RCB skipper Virat Kohli had to depart after a controversial dismissal. While the batter did not agree to his wicket, he was quick to go up to the third umpire, Michael Gough. After close watch, the third umpire determined that the ball had dipped, ruling it to be a legitimate delivery and thus a legitimate wicket.

Navjot Singh Sidhu claims Virat Kohli’s wicket “Not Out”

Former Indian cricketer turned commentator Navjot Singh Sidhu claimed the Virat Kohli’s dismissal was unfair and criticized the umpire’s call. Sidhu, who is currently commentating in the IPL with Star Sports stated that the point of impact of the delivery should be given more significance. 

“Chhati thok ke kehta hu, not out hai (I say it loud that it was Not Out),” Sidhu claimed on air. Not only this, Harsha Bhogle also claimed that “RCB have been robbed here” as soon as Kohli was deemed out.

  Speaking of the match, the RCB were handed a close one-run defeat in an absolute last ball thriller. With their sixth consecutive defeat, RCB continue to sit at the bottom most spot with a solitary win off eight games.
