Former Australian cricketer Shane Watson backed Indian skipper Rohit Sharma to have a good outing with the bat in the 2025 Champions Trophy despite a poor run in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under. Rohit hasn’t been able to get runs in the Test series as he could only amass 31 runs in three matches so far. However, the former cricketer believes that Rohit’s Test form will not affect in the white-ball cricket, and will be having a good time with the bat in the Champions Trophy.
Rohit Sharma finished as a second highest run-scorer in the 2023 ODI World Cup, and finished as a leading run-scorer for India in the victorious T20 World Cup campaign in 2024. “It’s more difficult to be able to do that in Test cricket. He hasn’t been able to find that balance here in Australia. But when he goes out for the batting in one-days, he lets loose. That’s when we see the very best of Rohit Sharma,” Watson was quoted as saying by News18.
Rohit probably doesn’t have a lot of time left: Shane Watson
Rohit Sharma has already announced his retirement from the T20I format after leading India to the T20 World Cup title in 2024. Speaking further, Shane Watson said that Rohit doesn’t have much time left in international cricket but the Indian skipper is likely to make it memorable.
“So I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t perform really well in the Champions Trophy, knowing that he probably doesn’t have a lot of time left, whatever that is, but a lot of time left in international cricket. So I’m sure he’ll let the handbrake off,” Shane Watson said.
