In a latest announcement, WWE confirmed that Cody Rhodes suffered a cervical swelling after being savagely attacked by Kevin Owens when he was unable to beat him for the WWE Championship at the Saturday Night’s Main Event (SNME). With that, the American Nightmare survived a catastrophic injury at the hands of Kevin Owens after he had delivered a banned piledriver to him, following which the Prized Fighter had a confrontation with WWE COO Triple H.

After turning on Cody Rhodes at WWE Bad Blood, attacking him in the backstage area in front of hundreds of fans, Kevin Owens has brought his vicious side back to Friday Night SmackDown. He has been constantly on the tail of Cody Rhodes, but a tough defeat in the main event of SNME in the WWE Championship match, which saw the champion use the steel chair to retain his title, the Prized Fighter lost complete control over himself.

The attack from Kevin Owens on Cody Rhodes was so sudden that it shocked the thousands of fans in attendance at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum in Long Island, New York. The officials and medical personnel backstage quickly arrived at the ring to tend to Cody Rhodes before he was stretchered outside the arena, while Triple H left the gorilla position, and nearly came to blows with Kevin Owens on the entrance ramp.

As per the statement from WWE, Cody Rhodes was kept overnight at a hospital in Long Island, New York after being attacked by Kevin Owens, hitting him with a banned piledriver. On their official website, they wrote, “While X-Rays were negative for a fracture, Rhodes has been officially diagnosed with axial compression of the cervical spine, as well as a cervical strain with spasm.”

With no update on Cody Rhodes’ potential return to WWE, it will be interesting to see when he does make his highly awaited arrival, and how he gets back at Kevin Owens for his heinous actions.
