Commonwealth Games (CWG) 2022 held in Birmingham was a grand success, which saw a huge footfall in the stadiums. Furthermore, the game of cricket included in this edition saw few close finishes, with India also ending the campaign with a silver medal, which further drove the TRP.
Australia finished in the top position with 178 medals, followed by England and Canada. The Indian contingent snapped up 61 medals to end at the fourth slot.
Where will CWG 2026 take place?
Earlier, the CWG Federation announced the 2026 edition of the quadrennial event will take place from 17 to 29 March in Victoria. The opening ceremony will be held at the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
It will be the sixth occasion of Australia hosting the Games, while also staging 1938 Sydney, 1962 Perth, 1982 Brisbane, 2006 Melbourne, and 2018 Gold Coast in the past. The 2006 Melbourne is been said to be one of the most successful editions in the history of the Games.

“This is a very special moment for the Commonwealth Sports Family and on behalf of the entire Movement, I would like to congratulate Commonwealth Games Australia and Victoria on their successful Games submission. We now look forward to a bright future as we work together to stage a Commonwealth Games like no other.”
The Games will take place in Geelong, Bendigo, Ballarat, and Gippsland regions across the different states of Victoria. Certainly, the hosting of these events has helped Australia in terms of jobs, hospitality and economy.
Victoria has the experience of hosting The Australian Open Tennis Grand slam and the Melbourne Formula 1 Grand Prix. Furthermore, premier tournaments of sports like cricket, golf and also Australian Rules Football competition are also being held in the state.
The 2026 edition of the event is likely to see the games like Archery and Shooting making their return to the prestigious event.
