As Argentina kicks off its CONMEBOL FIFA World Cup 2026 Qualifiers against Uruguay, all fans have been eager to know if Lionel Messi will be in action. The 2023 Ballon d'Or winner has been out of action due to a few injuries as he missed the final few Inter Miami games in the Major League Soccer 2023 season.

Messi last played in Inter Miami CF's 2-1 defeat to New York City FC in the Noche d'Or celebration exhibition game on November 10. Prior to this fixture, Messi's last Inter Miami game was on October 21 as the team failed to reach the MLS playoffs.
But Argentine coach Luis Scaloni confirmed Messi's fitness during Thursday's news conference. He said, "Messi is fine, he is doing well. Beyond the fact that he played a game in the last 25 days, he has been training normally, he is in good condition and he is fine."

Talking about the prospect of facing Brazil, Scaloni stressed the fact that the team is focused on playing against Uruguay first. "This national team has already shown that it can play against any rival," Scaloni said. "Then you can win or not. We will be up to the task, we are ready to compete. We are not thinking about Brazil because first we have a game against Uruguay, which is a tremendously difficult opponent."
