One of the Australian media houses, cricket.com.au, on Tuesday, December 31, announced the Test team of the year. In a notable move, star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah was named the captain of the side as he finished the year 2024 with phenomenal performance. Notably, Bumrah, finished 2024 as the highest wicket-taker in Tests with 71 wickets from 13 matches (26 innings), at an average of 14.92.

Not only this, in the four Tests so far in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25, Bumrah is the leading wicket-taker with 30 scalps to his name. He recently became the bowler with best bowling average with more than 200 wickets. Additionally, the 31-year-old is joined by Yashasvi Jaiswal in the list from the Indian cricket team.

Bumrah named captain of Test team of the year 2024; Pat Cummins ignored

While Bumrah was named the captain of the side, Australia captain Pat Cummins, who is leading the team from the front in the five-match BGT 2024-25 was ignored from the list. Notably, Cummins had a good year with the ball with 37 scalps from nine matches at an average of 24.02. He also scored 306 runs with the bat, registering one fifty-plus score.

Other than Bumrah and Yashasvi Jaiswal, Alex Carey and Josh Hazlewood were the only to Australian to find their name in the list. Joe Root, Ben Duckett, Harry Brook (England), Rachin Ravindra, Matt Henry (New Zealand), Kamindu Mendis (Sri Lanka) and Keshav Maharaj (South Africa) were the others to get featured in the list.
