The 17th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has had a great start with some teams playing a last-ball thriller as well as the tournament giving some of the biggest run-fest. In the 12th match of the IPL 2024, it will be Faf du Plessis-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) taking on Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
However, this proves to be a crucial match for both the sides with them winning one match each, while RCB has lost a match also. Ahead of this crucial match, the fans reignited the much-talked about on-field rivalry from IPL 2023 between Virat Kohli and Gautam Gambhir, who then was the coach with the Lucknow Super Giants.
To add fuel to the fire, the Kolkata-based franchise took to social media to share fresh images with the two greats of the game sharing a frame. “Cricket images that hit hard,” KKR captioned the post on X, which has been going viral. KKR shared two images, the first featuring Gautam Gambhir in the foreground with a blurred figure of Kohli in the background. To sharpen the image, it reveals Kohli giving a stare towards Gambhir’s direction.
However, this might just be one instance, both the players have downplayed the significance of any rivalry and have often acknowledged and respected each other’s contributions.
The Indian and RCB batter, Virat Kohli made a return to the run-charts with a well-made 77 off 49 deliveries and steered RCB to their first win of the season. The RCB chased 177-run target in 19.2 overs, with Dinesh Karthik and Mahipal Lomror also playing a crucial knock. Moreover, Kohli stands third in the list of Orange Cap holders with 98 runs from two innings and only sits behind Heinrich Klaasen (143 runs) and Riyan Parag (127 runs).
