Football star Cristiano Ronaldo has scripted another record, this time off the field. The Portuguese player has become the first person to reach 300 million followers on Instagram. Notably, Ronaldo was also the first one to reach the 200-million followers mark. It took only 17 months for the Juventus star to gain 100 million followers. Ronaldo is already the most liked athlete on Facebook with 128m likes. He has more than 500 million followers cumulatively across all social media platforms.

As per a report from last year, the former Real Madrid forward is the top-earning celebrity from Instagram. Ronaldo reportedly earns a whopping 900,00 euros for every sponsored post he makes on the photo-blogging website. His yearly income from Instagram is 48 million euros, which is way more than what Ronaldo earns at his football club Juventus (34 million euros).

The 36-year-old is habitual of breaking the records and achieving great numbers with no sign of ageing. Ronaldo recently became the first man to play in five European Championship tournaments, and his brace against Hungary in the ongoing Euro 2020 took him to 11-- the most goals scored in Euro’s history.

The ‘Ronaldo’ effect

With his huge fan base across social media, millions of people are influenced by the brand Ronaldo endorses or the product he uses. However, this also has an adverse effect which was experienced by American multinational beverage company Coca-Cola. During a press conference ahead of Portugal vs Hungry match, Ronaldo put aside two bottles of Coca-Cola, snubbing the beverage as he urged people to drink water instead.

The move saw Coca-Cola’s price share drop from $56.10 to $55.22, with a whopping 4 billion US dollars reduction from the brand value of the beverage company.
