Ace Indian shuttler Lakshya Sen and PV Sindhu have sailed through the badminton men's and women's singles final respectively at the ongoing Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham. While PV Sindhu defeated Singapore's Jin Min Yeo in straight games 21-19, 21-17 to secure a berth in the gold medal match, Sen also got the better of his Singaporean opponent Jia Heng Teh 21-10, 18-21, 21-16.
While Sindhu's fixture was a close won which she managed to win in two games, Sen's match went into the decider before the world number 10 showed his class to close the match in the deciding set.
The result implies that India are guaranteed at least two silver medals. However, the country is hoping for nothing less than gold from Sindhu and Sen with the former being a two-time Olympic medallist and Sen being the silver medal winner at the All England Open 2022 and a potential Olympic medallist in Paris.
Meanwhile, Kidambi Srikanth got a chance to avenge his Mixed Team finals defeat to Ng Tze Yong. He faced the Malaysian once again in the men's singles semi-final and took an early lead beating him 21-13 in the first game. However, Ng Tze came back to force the match into the decider as he took the second game 21-19 before winning the final game 21-10.
