UFC middleweight champion Israel Adesanya has fired back at Dricus du Plessis for “playing the victim” after their heated confrontation at UFC 290 last weekend. Du Plessis, who defeated Robert Whittaker by TKO in the co-main event, was confronted by Adesanya in the octagon after his win and the two exchanged words before being separated by security.
The South African boxer has previously chastised Adesanya for not being truly 'African,' alleging that he was the only truly African fighter in the division and that the rest simply called themselves African despite not living or training on the continent.

Adesanya took to Twitter to continue his verbal assault on du Plessis, calling him a “victim” and also promised to finish him if they ever meet in the cage. The UFC tweeted along with snippets from Du Plessis’ press conference, "Don’t back play the victim…stand on your original statement. Say it with yo chest nigga!! I never discredited you as a real African, you tried to discredit 3 Real African UFC Champions. You started this, and I will finish this! That’s not a threat, that’s a promise. Gbo gbo yin ma ku!" The last words are in Yoruba language which translates to, "Hear you, don’t die!"
Adesanya had earlier tweeted while quoting a Du Plessis video saying that he will “light him up” and also saying that they will believe anything they want even after seeing proof.
He had earlier said after an altercation with Adesanya that he is behaving like a “clown”. Du Plessis has not responded to Adesanya’s latest tweets yet, but he will get his chance to reply in the ring as the rivals are slated to fight each other for the middleweight title.
