India's wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant has firmly dismissed rumours of him approaching Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for the team’s captaincy ahead of the India Premier League (IPL) 2025 season. As one of the key player for Delhi Capitals, captaining them for the last few years, Pant made it clear that the claims of him approaching RCB for captaincy are entirely baseless and false on the social media platform X.
In a recent post on X, Rishabh Pant expressed his frustration over the spread of false information on social media, specifically targeting a user named “Rajiv” (@Rajiv1841) who had spread the rumours on the social media platform about him going to RCB. The post from the X user read that Pant approached RCB through his manager earlier this week for a potential opportunity at captaincy, but he was turned down by them.
Fake news. Why do you guys spread so much fake news on social media: Rishabh Pant
“Pant approached RCB through his manager earlier this week as he foresee a captaincy vacancy there but got declined by RCB's management. Virat doesn't want Pant in RCB due to his political tactics in the Indian team as well as in DC,” wrote the X user, to which Rishabh Pant replied, “Fake news. Why do you guys spread so much fake news on social media. Be sensible guys so bad . Don’t create untrustworthy environment for no reason. It’s not the first time and won’t be last but I had to put this out .please always re check with your so called sources. Everyday it’s becoming worst . Rest it’s upto you guys . It’s wasn’t just for you it’s for a lot for people who is spreading misinformation. Tc”.
While many players often ignore such rumors, the reply of Pant is considerable as the misinformation is spread so easily and quickly on social media.
Rishabh Pant has been with the Delhi Capitals since the beginning of his career in 2016, and took over as the full-time captain from Shreyas Iyer in the IPL 2022 season. Although under his captaincy, the Delhi Capitals finished in 6th position in IPL 2024 after missing the entire 2023 season due to recovery from a serious car accident.
Recently, Pant scored a century in his comeback Test match against Bangladesh, scoring 109 runs from 128 balls with 13 fours and 4 sixes. He is expected to be a key player in India’s middle order in the upcoming Test series against New Zealand at home and Australia away.
