The Women's World Cup, the premier event for female football, will be held this year and begin in July. The tournament has been held every four years and one year after the FIFA World Cup for men since 1991, when the inaugural competition, then known as the FIFA Women's World Championship, took place in China. The Women's World Cup will see its ninth iteration this year.

The competition will have the same structure as its male counterpart, with each team playing three league games before moving on to the elimination rounds, which will include a round of 16 before the customary quarterfinal, semifinal, and championship games. There will be 32 teams competing in the competition, split up into eight groups of four teams each. This time, Australia and New Zealand will share hosting duties. It will also be the first senior competition in Oceania, the first Women's World Cup in the Southern Hemisphere, and the third senior competition in Asia-Pacific.

New Zealand and Norway will face off in the opening match in Auckland's Eden Park on July 20, 2023. The championship game will be played at the Sydney Olympic Stadium in Australia on August 20, 2023. The United States is the current champion after winning the two previous contests (in 2015 and 2019).
