Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) pacer Mohammed Shami looked completely out of rhythm against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium and registered the record of bowling the second costliest spell in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Batting first after winning the toss, Punjab got a blazing start from their openers Priyansh Arya (36 off 13) and Prabhsimran Singh (42 off 23). SRH captain Pat Cummins and Shami’s responsibility was to deliver early breakthroughs to their team but they completely struggled with their line and length. After the openers’ return to the pavilion, Punjab skipper Shreyas Iyer showcased his formidable side and hit an excellent 82 off just 36.

After mayhem from Iyer, Shami came to bowl the 20th over for the Orange Army. Confronting Marcus Stoinis on the last five deliveries, he gave away 26 runs. The Aussie hit four maximums on the final four balls and helped the Kings plunder 27 runs from the speedster’s over. Stoinis’ power-hitting took Punjab to 245/6 in their 20 overs. Noting Shami's terrible bowling show, a user named Dinda Academy took a jab on the star India pacer and wrote on X, "Fifty for Shami – With the ball 4 overs, 75 runs – not the kind of milestone you want, but Dinda Academy surely proud tonight!"

SRH get an unprecedented start from their openers

Chasing the humongous target, the Orange Army have received a marvellous start from their openers, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma. As of writing, SRH’s score is 78/0 after 5.5 overs. Abhishek has struck an unbeaten 49 off 18 while his Aussie opening ally has amassed unbeaten 24 runs after facing 18 balls.

Hyderabad are struggling with their form in the tournament as they have won only one game in five outings thus far. Punjab, on the other hand, have looked extraordinary under Shreyas Iyer’s leadership as they have amassed three convincing wins off their four contests.
