AB De Villiers, one of the best cricket players of all-time, has made his stance heard on the controversy surrounding Tilak Varma’s 49 not out during third T20I against the West Indies. The 20-year-old couldn’t complete his second consecutive fifty for Team India at the Providence Stadium, after the stand-in captain Hardik Pandya finished off the match with a big six.

After ensuring that the Men in Blue stay in the ongoing T20I series in the Caribbean, which is currently 2-1 in favour of the West Indies, Hardik Pandya received a lot of backlash from the fans in India. They argued the fact that previous captains, including the likes of MS Dhoni, had let Virat Kohli finish off the match after blocking out the previous over from the opposition bowler.

It led to Harsha Bhogle, one of the well known faces in Indian and world cricket, sharing his two cents about the controversy. He sent out a tweet which read, “I am puzzled by the discussion around Tilak Varma missing out on a 50. It isn't a landmark, in fact other than a century (which is rare), there are no landmarks in T20 cricket.”

“We are far too obsessed with individual achievement within a team sport. I don't believe 50s should be recorded in individual stats in T20 cricket. If you have made enough runs quickly enough (avg and SR), that is all that matters,” concluded the 62-year-old.

After reading the aforementioned tweet about the matter, AB De Villiers was quick to thank Harsha Bhogle for his understanding of the controversy. He tweeted in the comments section, “Thank you thank you thank you. Finally someone says it!,” to which the response came from the Indian colour commentator, “Cheers champion.”

Moreover, the fourth match of the West Indies vs India T20I series will be played at Central Broward Regional Park Stadium Turf Ground in Lauderhill, USA, on August 12, Saturday, which will be quickly followed by the fifth and final on the next day, at the same venue. The hosts have to win only one of the next two T20I to secure a famous series win against the Men in Blue, who will not be going down without a fight in all likelihood.
