Former India seamer Praveen Kumar escaped a major car accident near the commissioner's residence in Meerut on Tuesday, July 4. According to initial reports, the former cricketer was accompanied by his son when he was hit by a speeding canter. The police reached the accident spot and arrested the canter driver. While Kumar’s car was severely damaged in the accident, he and his son escaped unhurt from the accident.

According to reports by ABP News, the accident took place around 4 pm on Tuesday, when Praveen was coming from the Pandav Nagar area via his Land Rover, when his car collided with the canter.  Post the accident, the crowd gathered at the spot and got the hold of the driver before the local police took over. According to the city SP, Piyush Kumar, the canter driver involved in the accident got detained. Meanwhile, the Circle Officer confirmed that the 36-year-old former swing bowler and his son didn’t get injured.

Notably, this isn’t the first time that the former Uttar Pradesh bowler has been involved in a car accident. In 2007, Kumar had fallen from an open jeep. Speaking of Praveen’s international cricket career, the ex-India player represented the nation in all three formats of the game. Kumar was one of the most reliable names in the Indian cricket squad from 2007 to 2011, and he could have been a part of the 2011 World Cup team had he not faced injuries.

S Sreesanth replaced Kumar in the Mahendra Singh Dhoni-led World Cup winning squad. Kumar played 68 ODIs for India, and took 77 wickets in the games, and played last for India in 2012.
