Sun Risers Hyderabad opener Abhishek Sharma has been in exceptional form this season with the 23-year-old youngster just dealing in sixes, smashing 41 in the league stage itself, the highest by any Indian batter in the history of the IPL. On Sunday, after his heroic innings against the Punjab Kings, the left-arm pacer from Punjab and Abhishek’s friend Arshdeep Singh reached his mother and requested the same blessings for him.
In the final league game of both sides, Sunrisers Hyderabad got the better of the already tame Punjab side which was playing with just one overseas player. Batting first, stand-in-skipper Jitesh Sharma-led side raced to 214/5, thanks to exploiting returns by Atharva Taide, Prabhsimran, and Rossouw. Chasing the total, Cummins’ side secured victory by four wickets owing to a sensational knock by Abhishek (66) at the top.
After the match, the Punjab batter took his state teammate Arshdeep Singh to his mother and sister. The 25-year-old pacer, in jubilance, asked her mother, Manju, to give the same blessings that she gives to Abhishek in Punjabi language. He uttered, “Give me the blessings which you give to Abhishek…I want the same.” Abhishek’s sister Komal took out a video of the event and uploaded it on her social media account.

The SunRisers Hyderabad are next slated to meet the Kolkata Knight Riders in Qualifier 1 on Tuesday at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. The orange army progressed to the top two spots after rain forced the Rajasthan Royals to divide the points and move to no.3 to play RCB in the eliminator.
