The game saw Australia defeating the Three Lions by a margin of 36 runs. The cricketing powerhouses and Ashes rivals are placed in Group B.
D uring the 14th over of England's innings, bowled by Josh Hazlewood, all-rounder Glenn Maxwell mocked rival fans with WWE legend John Cena’s ‘You can’t see me’ gesture. England’s Jonny Bairstow attempted a slog hit off a Bairstow delivery but failed to execute it properly and sent the ball towards the deep mid-wicket. Maxwell, who was positioned in the deep took a catch and turned to English fans sitting behind him.
The Aussie pulled cheeky celebration by performing John Cena’s trademark gesture. Cena took to Instagram and shared Maxwell’s picture on his Instagram. Speaking of the game, Australia were asked to bat first and they came up with a total of 201 for the loss of seven wickets. Batters including Travis Head, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh and Marcus Stoinis came up with small yet contributing knocks of 34, 39, 35 and 30, respectively.
In reply, England could only come up with 165 runs in 36 runs, despite skipper Jos Buttler’s 42 runs off 28 balls. The Kangaroos will be up against Namibia in their next game, scheduled for Wednesday, June 12.
