Irish football coach Roy Keane suggested that Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola should take up the role of England manager. Keane has urged the Football Association to pursue Guardiola for the role. Notably, Guardiola, who helped the side win six Premier League titles and the Champions League since taking over the role, is out of contract at the end of the campaign.
ITV pundit Keane is of the belief that England should hire Guardiola. Recently, interim manager Lee Carsley, guided the side to a 3-1 win in Nations League over Finland in Helsinki. Following the win, Keane said, “People are always going to try and put their chips on one side. I'm in the middle. My bosses have made it clear what they need from me. The job deserves a world-class coach that has won trophies and has been there and done it. I'm still on the path to doing that. The FA has to go for the best guy, whatever. Go for the best. Pep’s contract is up in the summer.”
I’d love to see Pep in charge of England: Lee Hendrie names his favourite to take England coach’s role
Former English footballer Lee Hendrie also named his favourite to shoulder the responsibility of England’s coach. While speaking to SkySports, Hendrie said that Pep Guardiola should take up the responsibility of England’s coach. He said, “I would love to see Pep in charge of England. I really would. I think he would want it. I know Lee (Lee Carsley) well enough and I don’t think he is going to scream and shout that. I know, knowing Lee, he would want to prove himself that he is worthy of taking that England role.”
He added, “There’s not a lot that needs to be changed but I would love to see Lee given an opportunity. I’d like to see how it pans out. But for me, I have always said, I would love to see Pep in charge of England, I really would. Because I just think he knows the players, he style of play. I really think that would be an option.”
