The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians will take the field tonight as they take on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While the MI will be led by Hardik Pandya, after he was traded from GT, Shubman Gill will take the helm for the Gujarat Titans.
As the two sides take the field, MI batter Tilak Varma addressed the pre-match press conference. During the pre-match presser, the Indian batter was also encountered by a question around MI’s captaincy saga. However, he did not go deep into the discussion and just dropped a simple answer, stating, “Rohit has been there for us, and Hardik bhai has also been there for us. It’s been the same, just following the basics.”
“Strategy-wise, everything going well. It’s the same thing, nothing new,” he further added.
Further recalling how he made his Indian debut under Hardik Pandya’s captaincy and now plays under him in IPL, Varma added. “I debuted under him (Hardik) when I played for India, so it’s going well.” He also put thing clear adding, “Hardik is the captain, Rohit is always there for Hardik and the team. We get well together as a team.”

Speaking at the pre-match press conference, Tilak Varma also spoke of his role in the team. Emphasizing on the responsibility he has, having played for India last year, Varma said, “As a senior player and having played for India, I have a slightly bigger responsibility to play mature innings. As I have said previously, I always want to finish games and I have a good knowledge and experience of it when playing for India.”
