Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) pacer Harshit Rana has been handed a fine and one-match suspension in Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The Indian pacer was imposed by the sanction from the IPL and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after breaching the IPL Code of Conduct.
The 22-year-old was given a 100 per cent fine of his match fees after he was seen giving a furious send-off to Abishek Porel in the IPL 2024 clash against Delhi Capitals (DC) on Monday, April 29 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Rana committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.5 of the IPL's Code of Conduct. "Mr Harshit Rana, bowler, Kolkata Knight Riders has been fined 100 per cent of his match fees and suspended for one match for breaching the IPL Code Conduct during Match 47 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on April 29, 2024," IPL's statement read.
Moreover, Rana admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. It is to be noted that in Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding. Talking about the incident, it occurred in the seventh over of DC's inning. The 22-year-old made a mess of the batter and clean bowled Porel at the score of 18. Soon after dismissing Porel, the Delhi player pointed the batter towards the dressing room. He was then set to blow a kiss, but just held back.
Notably, this wasn't Rana's first offence in the ongoing edition of the IPL. Earlier, he made a similar gesture towards Mayank Agarwal after dismissing him in KKR vs SRH.
Harshit Rana, who has featured in eight matches for KKR in the 2024 edition, has scalped 11 wickets in his seven innings at an average of 24.90 and economy of 9.78.
