This announcement was made hours after Luana Alonso announced retirement after finishing last in the women's 100m butterfly heat. Alonso announced retirement after missing out on qualification for the semi-final by a mere 0.24 seconds.

Since these events, Alonso, a popular figure on social media, revealed her interaction with Neymar Jr. Alonso said, "He sent me a DM. That's all I can say. It was left on the request form. I cannot tell this here," as quoted by Fox Sports Mexico. On her early exit from the Olympic Games Village, Alonso expressed that she was never expelled and urged people to "stop spreading false information."
Coming back to Alonso being kicked out of the Olympic Village, the president of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee Larissa Schaerer released a statement confirming Luana Alonso's exit from the Olympic Village. The statement said, "Her presence is creating an inappropriate atmosphere within Team Paraguay. We thank her for proceeding as instructed, as it was of her own free will that she did not spend the night in the Athletes' Village."
