The second match of the IPL 2023 didn’t run short in thrill and excitement as the hosts, Punjab Kings, defeated Kolkata Knight Riders on April 1. Sam Curran and Arshdeep Singh’s efforts helped the Shikhar Dhawan-led squad manage to reduce KKR to 46/3 in the powerplay.
The highlight of the match came when the young star Arshdeep Singh and Sikandar Raza made a combined effort to dismiss Anukul Roy, and the former marked his celebrations by giving a ‘death stare’ to Roy. However, during the post-match presentation, Singh said that he got aggressive as Roy had started hitting him straight.
"He (Anukul Roy) was my batch mate in under-19 cricket. He started to hit me straight away so I wanted to show aggression. He was also showing aggression so my aggression also came out a bit. Players are expecting that I will bowl yorkers so I tried to surprise them a bit by bowling bouncers,” he said.
Arshdeep Singh was later awarded Man of the Match after his incredible spell of 3/19. The 24-year old seamer drew the first wicket for Punjab when he dismissed Mandeep Singh in the second over. He then dismissed Venkatesh Iyer in the crucial 16th over, helping Punjab win the season opener for them.
