The five-match Test series between Australia and India is set to begin on November 22. Ahead of the much-awaited Border-Gavaskar Trophy down under, Australian skipper Pat Cummins picked star Indian pacer Jasprit Bumrah as a big threat for the hosts in the upcoming Test series. Cummins said that Australia will be looking to keep Bumrah ‘quiet’ that could help them to win the series. Notably, Australia haven’t won a Test series against India since 2017. India won the last two Test series in Australia in 2018-19 and 2020-21.
Jasprit Bumrah was highest wicket taker during the 2018-19 Border-Gavaskar Trophy where India won the first-ever Test series in Australia. The fast bowler took 21 wickets in just four matches. Bumrah also took 11 wickets in three matches of the BGT 2020-21. "I'm a big fan of Bumrah. I think he's a fantastic bowler. Hopefully, if we can keep him quiet, that is going to go a long way to winning the series," Pat Cummins was quoted as saying by Times Now.
The last two series were a long time ago: Pat Cummins to ‘lean on’ WTC final and 2023 World Cup memories
Speaking further, Pat Cummins also mentioned that Australia will not think about the last two series loss against India down under. The Australian skipper said that Australia will remember Australia’s World Test Championship and 2023 ODI World Cup triumphs where Australia defeated India on the final of both occasions.
"The last two series were a long time ago. We have got over it. I've never played alongside him (Rohit Sharma), so I don't know him super well. But it has looked like they (Indian team) are pretty organised, pretty well-planned. Fortunately, over the last few years, we've had some success in the World Test Championship final and (in) a different format for the ODI World Cup. We'll be trying to lean on those memories. As I'm sure they're trying to remember some of the previous series over here as well," Cummins concluded.
