With the race to the IPL 2024 playoffs getting more intense with each passing day, five teams are the frontrunners to seal the final two berths in the top four. While Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) were the first team to secure a spot in the playoffs, they were joined by Rajasthan Royals (RR) after Delhi Capitals (DC) registered a 19-run win over Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Tuesday, May 14.
Apart from KKR and RR, CSK, SRH, RCB, DC and LSG all are in contention to seal the final two spots. However, it will be easy for CSK, RCB still has to rely on a lot of factors to earn a playoffs qualification. Here in this article, we’ll take a look at the scenarios possible for CSK and RCB to make to playoffs of the ongoing edition.
How can RCB and CSK both qualify for playoffs?
For both Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Chennai Super Kings to qualify for IPL 2024 playoffs, the Faf du Plessis-led side will first need to win their final match, which they are slated to play against CSK by less than 18 runs or chase within 18 overs or so. However, this won’t be enough for RCB to join Kolkata Knight Riders and Rajasthan Royals in the playoffs.
The Red and Blue side will still need other outcomes to go in their favour, should they beat CSK by a smaller margin. Furthermore, if CSK and RCB end up finishing with equal points (14), they would want SunRisers Hyderabad to lose their remaining two matches by a massive margin, however this seems highly unlikely.
