Virat Kohli, the former Indian captain, played his 300th ODI of his illustrious career versus New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, March 2, during the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. While his performance with the bat wasn’t much to speak about, his fielding exploits were a factor in helping India win the match against New Zealand by 44 runs, to finish in first place in Group A of the tournament, to make the semi-finals stage.

In Dubai, Virat Kohli became the seventh Indian player to participate in 300 ODIs or more after the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, Rahul Dravid, Sourav Ganguly, Yuvraj Singh, and Mohammad Azharuddin. After debuting on August 18, 2008, in an ODI against Sri Lanka in Dambulla, Virat Kohli has become one of the most dominating performances in the format, scoring 14096 runs at an average of 58.00 and a strike-rate of 93.40, with 51 hundreds and 73 fifties.

50th ODI (vs South Africa, 2011)

He did take a key catch of his close friend AB de Villiers during the match, but ultimately, India weren’t able to defend 296 runs against South Africa, although they did manage to win the whole thing in a few weeks time.

100th ODI (vs West Indies, 2013)

150th ODI (vs England, 2015)

150th During a tri-series, which also involved Australia, Virat Kohli played in his 150th ODI against England on January 30, 2015, at the WACA in Perth, scoring just eight runs in 26 balls before Moeen Ali dismissed him. After India huffed and puffed their way to 200-run total, England had to battle hard to chase the runs down, but it ultimately was a good day’s work for them in the field.

200th ODI (vs New Zealand, 2017)

250th ODI (vs Australia, 2020)

300th ODI (vs New Zealand, 2025)
