Royal Challengers Bengaluru registered their four-straight win to stay alive in the IPL 2024 playoff race by defeating the Punjab Kings by 60 runs. After Sam Curran, the Punjab Kings captain, decided to field first, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru opener, Virat Kohli was in imperious touch from the get-go. Although he saw the captain Faf du Plessis and Will Jacks lose their wickets in quick succession from the other end, he kept on playing attacking shots, despite getting dropped a couple of times early on.
In the fifth over, Rajat Patidar joined Virat Kohli in the middle, and they stitched together a 76-run stand for the third wicket, during which the middle-order batter completed his fifty. Following this, the RCB opener shared a 92-run partnership with Cameron Green before losing his wicket for 92 off 47, an innings which included seven fours and six maximums, to help them post 241/7 on the board.
Chasing this total, Royal Challengers Bengaluru were put under pressure as Jonny Bairstow and Rilee Rossouw scored quick quality knocks before Shashank Singh joined the party. But as the game progressed, RCB bowlers got their side back into the game and bundled out Punjab for 181 in 17 overs to seal a 60-run victory.
