Pep Guardiola, the Manchester City manager, took the blame of losing the derby 1-2 against Manchester United on himself, stating that he is “not good enough.” At the Etihad Stadium, the Manchester derby was going the way of City, but in the last couple of minutes of the second half, Amad Diallo inspired a great comeback for United, scoring the winning goal after earning a penalty, which captain Bruno Fernandes had put away.

Notably, in the first half, it was quite a cagey start to the Manchester derby until Josko Guardiol missed his marker to put away a towering header across goal in the 36th minute, to give City the 1-0 lead after Mason Mount was subbed off due to an injury. After Ruben Amorim brought in reinforcements in the second half, Manchester United had a spring in their stride, but they missed a couple of great chances to level the scoring.

Before heading into the second half stoppage time, Matheus Nunes gave away the ball cheaply to Amda Diallo before committing a fatal foul in the box, to gift-wrap a penalty to Manchester United. Bruno Fernandes converted yet another penalty in his career to bring his team back on level terms in the 88th minute before Amad Diallo scored a sensational goal in the 90th minute after Lisandro Martinez’s delightful ball from the back, to secure a 2-1 lead for the visitors.

Following a tough loss for Manchester City in the derby in the Premier League, Pep Guardiola wasn’t happy with himself for allowing the rivals to win the game in such a heartbreaking manner, especially after a string of poor results in all competitions. He was quoted as saying, as per BBC Sport, “I am not good enough. I am the boss. I am the manager. I have to find solutions and so far I haven't. That's the reality. Not much else to say. No defence. Manchester United were incredibly persistent. We have not lost eight games in two seasons. We can't defend that.”
