After beating Chennai Super Kings on Monday at the Dubai International Stadium, Delhi Capitals’ batter Shimron Hetmyer opened up on his responsibilities at the franchise in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Chasing a target of 137 on a bit tricky surface, Delhi were in a spot of bother when CSK scalped DC’s 6 wickets at the score of 99. But Hetmyer then came to their rescue with a mature knock.

Being demoted down the order, Hetmyer faced the crucial death-overs overs but he got the better of of the CSK bowlers as he scored 28* off 18 and helped DC defeat CSK by 3 wickets. With this win, DC regained the top spot in the points table. After the match, Hetmyer added that it is very important to finish the games and that is what he is paid for.

I try to finish as many games as possible: Hetmyer

The 24-year-old Hetmyer stated that it was important to finish the games and he was happy to do it against CSK. “Very important for me to finish games. I tell the guys that is what I am paid for and I try to finish as many games as possible,” Hetmyer told host Broadcaster Star Sports in the Post-match Presentation.

He added that he was thankful to have been saved by the dropped catch in the 18th over. “I thought I was out (on the dropped catch), and the guy missed it and I was thankful. It was just about getting bat on ball. The 19th over was the one where I thought I'd try and get a six and bring it down as much as possible,” he added.

Hetmyer, who played for Guyana Amazon Warrios in CPL 2021, had practiced against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots all-rounder Dwayne Bravo in the CPL and the former knew how Bravo would bowl in the final stages of the match to try and restrict the flow of runs. “I had enough practice against Bravo in the CPL. I knew he would go wide with the field he had and I just looked to go straight down the ground against him. It paid off twice,” Hetmyer concluded.

How does the points table look after the match?

We are in the last week of the Group stage in the IPL 2021 and the points table, especially the middle section of it is in a muddle. After beating CSK, DC are now on top with 20 points in 13 games. CSK and RCB are at second and third position with 18 points in 13 games and 16 points in 12 games respectively. KKR, RR and MI are very much in contention for the final playoff spot, while chances for PBKS’s qualification looks bleak. Today, RR will face MI which is a must-win game for both the sides.
