India wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant is on his road to recovery as the 25-year-old shared an Instagram story on Tuesday (7 February). “Never knew just being able to sit out and breathe fresh air feels so blessed,” wrote Pant while sharing a snapshot of him sitting in the open air. The Indian wicketkeeper sustained several injuries including a ligament tear in his right knee in a horrific car accident on 30 December 2022.

Pant was on his way to surprise his mother when the cricketer rammed his car into the divider of the Delhi-Uttarakhand Expressway. The 25-year-old was then taken to a hospital and a month later, Pant is recovering well. However, the Delhi cricketer will be out of cricketing action for months. Pant will be dearly missed during the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2022-23 which begins on 9 February.
The wicketkeeper’s absence has created an imbalance in the team, especially the Test squad as India don’t have the perfect replacement for Pant. This means that Australia have an edge over the hosts. Nevertheless, as Pant has begun his rehabilitation, the Indian fans are more than happy and are eagerly waiting for the cricketer to return to action. Former India captain Kapil Dev is also waiting for Pant to recover but wants to slap him before the young batter steps out on the field.
In a recent interaction, Dev has said that as much as he loves Pant, he wants to slap him like a father for making such a big mistake. “I have a lot of love for him. I want him to recover so that I can go and slap him and tell him to look after himself. Because of your accident, the entire team is in tatters. I love him, but I am also angry at him. Why do such youngsters of today’s times make such mistakes? There should be a slap for it,” Dev said.
“First blessings, that he gets all the love in the world, may the almighty give him good health. First that, but after that, like parents have this responsibility to slap the children if they make mistakes,” he added.
