Former Indian top-order batter and Kolkata Knight Riders mentor Gautam Gambhir expressed he would "love to coach" Team India. The discussion about Indian men's team's head coaching role has been making the rounds as it was confirmed that the current coach Rahul Dravid's tenure will be concluding at the end of the on-going T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies.
Names of several ex-Indian and foreign internationals like Ricky Ponting, Justin Langer, Stephen Fleming among others surfaced. But the name which received a lot of support from fans was Gautam Gambhir, who has worked wonders as a mentor with IPL franchises like Lucknow Super Giants and Kolkata Knight Riders.
I would love to coach the Indian team: Gautam Gambhir
In a recent event at the Medeor Hospital in Abu Dhabi, Gambhir was asked if he wishes to coach Team India. Gambhir's response to question was, "I would love to coach the Indian team. There is no bigger honour than coaching your national team. You are representing 140 crore Indians and more across the globe as well and when you represent India, how can it get bigger than that?"
"It is not me that will help India win the World Cup, it is 140 crore Indians who will help India win the World Cup. If everyone starts praying for us and we start playing and representing them, India will win the World Cup. The most important thing is to be fearless.”
