Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul revealed his biggest regret, which reminded cricket fans of the unfortunate night of November 19, 2023. India, running on the unbeaten streak of 10 matches went down to Australia in the final, narrowingly missing the opportunity to get the coveted trophy back home after 12 years. While more than six months have passed to the finale, fans as well as players haven’t been able to get over it.
Rahul, the wicketkeeping batter in India’s World Cup 2023 squad, recently opened up on the night of the final and revealed his biggest regret. The 32-year-old, who is currently leading the Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2024, appeared on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube show, where he said that had he played a better knock, India could have won the World Cup 2023.
If I could have played till the end: KL Rahul’s biggest regret
The LSG captain recalled his biggest regret when Ravichandran Ashwin asked what would he change if he could go back in time. Ashwin asked Rahul, “If I could give an opportunity to give a time machine & review one decision to correct it all over again, what would it be"? Rahul revealed, "The World Cup final against Australia, I was stuck at the moment, whether to take down Starc or just play him as it was reversing, bowling in tough angle.”
He added, “In that confusion, I ended up nicking the ball and getting out at a crucial time. I felt like I had continued that innings and gone on to play the rest of the 12 overs (8) or whatever was left, we could have probably gotten 30-40 runs more, and we could've had a World Cup in our hands. That's something I regret.”
