Former India captain Sourav Ganguly said that the batting side of the Indian cricket team will help the side win the World Cup 2023. The ex-BCCI Chief said that though it is more than a decade since the Asian Giants won any ICC trophy, there is no need to panic. It is to be noted that the Indian team last won an ICC trophy when they beat England in the Champions Trophy Final in 2013.

Dada, as he is fondly called by cricket fans, was at a launch event on August 24, Thursday, where he said that there will be both bad and good times. However, he added that while India is hosting the biggest ICC tournament, India must take a shot and not let the opportunity of winning at home slip away.

Putting the onus on the batting side, the former India great said, “You cannot win World Cups all the time, there will be bad times, there will be gaps.” He added, “They will have to bat very well, if they bat well they will win,” Ganguly, who led India to the 2003 World Cup final.”

Speaking on the dynamics of both Asia Cup 2023 and World Cup 2023, Ganguly commented, “The World Cup is different, Asia Cup is different and the Australia home series is different. Every tournament depends on how they play that particular moment. India are a strong side, but they have to play well during the World Cup.”

Notably, in the Asia Cup 2023, commencing on August 30, India will play their first match on September 2. On the other hand, they will play their first match in the ODI World Cup 2023 on October 8, against Australia.
