Indian men’s football team captain Sunil Chhetri and his wife Sonam Bhattacharya welcomed their first child, a baby boy. As per some reports, Sonam gave birth to a healthy baby boy on August 30, in Bengaluru, and they further suggest that both baby and mother are in good health. Notably, Chhetri and Sonam announced the pregnancy in a special way, when he dedicated one of his goals to his wife.
Chhetri scored a goal against Lebanon in a recent match, and after scoring he tucked the ball under his shirt and went towards the stands where Sonam was seated. As per a Bengali news outlet, ABP, both Sonam and the baby are doing well.
Earlier, it was reported that the Indian football skipper wished to remain absent from the country's upcoming matches as Sonam’s due date was expected in September. The Indian football coach Igor Stimac accepted his request and left the 39-year-old out of India’s squad for the upcoming assignments in the King Cup.
Speaking of the tournament, India is set to square off against the Asian giants Iraq in the first knockout game on September 7 at Chiang Mai Stadium in Thailand. While the winner will play in the final based on the game between Lebanon and Thailand, the loser will play the third-place play-off game.
