The Delhi High Court has asked the court registry and plaintiffs Mihir Diwakar and his wife Soumya Das to inform Indian cricketing great Mahendra Singh Dhoni regarding the defamation suit filed against him. Diwakar, Dhoni's former associate and friend, filed a case against the alleged false accusations against him by the former Indian captain.
Dhoni had filed a criminal case in Ranchi against Diwakar and Das for allegedly violating a 2017 contract signed regarding cricket academies and sports complexes globally under the names ‘MS Dhoni Cricket Academy’, ‘MS Dhoni Sports Academy’ or ‘MS Dhoni Sports Complex’.

The suit was filed at the Ranchi District Court for offences under Section 406 (criminal breach of trust), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery), 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating), 471 (Using as genuine a forged document or electronic record) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The complaint further claimed that Diwakar and Das continued to start academies under the Dhoni name despite sending a letter revoking the contract.
Hence a case was filed against MS Dhoni for which the former Indian captain's cricketer was supposed to present at the High Court for the initial hearing before Justice Pratibha M. Singh. But Dhoni or any of his representatives were absent during the hearing. Hence an intimation will be sent to the cricketer before the next hearing, which has now been scheduled for January 29.

"Before going into the allegations in the plaint and the question whether such an injunction would even be maintainable or any injunction would be liable to be granted, it is deemed appropriate to direct intimation to defendant no. 1 (Dhoni) of filing of the present suit. Let the registry issue an email to defendant No. 1 at the email address. The intimation be also given at the law firm representing him," the judge said.
