The highly anticipated IPL 2025 mega auction, which will decide the fate of 577 shortlisted players, is currently underway at the Abady Al Johar Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. With just 204 slots up for grabs, including 70 overseas ones, only a select few out of 367 Indian and 210 overseas players will be picked by the Indian Premier League (IPL) teams for the 2025 season.
Ishan Kishan, the Indian wicketkeeper-batter who was released by Mumbai Indians ahead of the mega auction, has been signed by SunRisers Hyderabad for INR 11.25 Crore. The five-time champions, Mumbai Indians began the bidding war with Punjab Kings (PBKS) joining in. However, the Mumbai-based stepped out from the race with the bid going past INR 3.40 Cr, Delhi Capitals (DC) and SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) joined the bandwagon, with the latter acquiring his services INR 11.25 Crore.
Ishan Kishan's IPL Career
After being released by Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, Ishan Kishan registered himself for a base price of INR 2 Crore, following which the organising committee listed him in the Set No. 5 Wicketkeepers 1. Kishan is known for his explosive left-handed batting at the top of the order and is a reliable wicketkeeping option.
Ishan Kishan started his IPL journey in 2016 with Gujarat Lions, picked for INR 35 lakh after leading India to the Under-19 World Cup final. He stayed with the Lions until 2017, then joined Mumbai Indians in 2018. Kishan impressed in IPL 2020, scoring 516 runs with a strike rate of 145.76, including a memorable 99 against RCB. Though he struggled in 2019 and had a quiet 2021, he bounced back with over 400 runs in 2022 and 2023.
In 105 IPL matches, Ishan Kishan has scored 2,644 runs at a strike rate of 135.86, including 16 half-centuries. The 26-year-old has the ability to score quickly at the top of the order and can change the game with his powerful hitting. The left-hander is also effective against spinners in the middle overs.
