The Big Bash League season 12 is underway Down Under. The tournament which commenced today (December 13) will be played until 13 February 2023. Sydney Thunder are taking on Melbourne Stars in the tournament opener, which is being played at Manuka Oval. Thunder won the toss and opted to bowl first.
Melbourne Stars suffered a massive blow in the ongoing match as Joe Burns pulled a hamstring while taking a run. After Joe Clarke’s dismissal, Joe Burns took the crease. The 33-year-old who was at the crease after the Stars were reduced to 35/2 in five overs. At the start of the sixth over, Burns took a run and was soon seen limping.
Burns looked in discomfort as he tried to seal a single with the physios also coming in to check on him.
Later, the Melbourne Stars took to Twitter to give an update on Burns injury. It was reported that the batter has been taken for scans on his injured hamstring. The franchise also confirmed that he will not take the field in the second innings.
Ahead of the start of the first match, Melbourne Stars confirmed that both Marcus Stoinis and Joe Burns will play the game despite being affected from COVID-19. Talking about the side's next game, the Stars will face Hobart Hurricanes in Match 4 of BBL 12 on December 16 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
