The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) selection committee led by Ajit Agarkar, on Monday, announced Team India's 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024 in the West Indies and USA, starting in June. While the BCCI made some interesting picks in the squad, fans slammed Indian cricket for ignoring Chennai Super Kings skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad's selection despite his spectacular form in the ongoing IPL 2024.
The BCCI made headlines with the squad announcement as they picked Rajasthan Royals skipper Sanju Samson as the wicketkeeper-batter over Lucknow Super Giants skipper KL Rahul and Royal Challengers Bengaluru's Dinesh Karthik. While the BCCI named RR opener Yashasvi Jaiswal in the 15-man squad and Shubman Gill as the travel reserve, Ruturaj Gaikwad was snubbed from the selections.
The CSK skipper is currently second in the orange cap race for the highest run-scorer in the IPL 2024. Gaikwad has scored 447 runs in nine innings this season with 108* as his best score. Gaikwad is averaging 63.86 this season with a hundred and three half-centuries. The Pune batter is just 53 runs away from the top-placed Virat Kohli after playing a game less.
As the BCCI announced the T20 World Cup 2024 squad, fans called out Team India for not picking Gaikwad. While many asked for justice, others questioned the selection of Jaiswal and Gill, considering their current forms. Check the viral reactions on Gaikwad's snub from the World Cup squad:
