As the deadline for the franchises to announce the IPL 2025 retentions is nearing, there has been a constant buzz in the air. Every other day, the internet has been buzzing with latest reports, considering fans are eager to know the names of players retained by their favourite franchises as well as those the teams let go of. As per latest reports, Australia’s fast-bowling star Mitchell Starc will be released by the franchise ahead of the forthcoming season. 

Notably, Starc, who became the most expensive player in the history of the tournament, is likely to join skipper Shreyas Iyer and Jamaican Andre Russell in the list of their releases. According to several media reports, the cricketer will move to a new franchise for the 2025 season of the cash-rich league. Speaking of his performance, Starc struggled a bit in the initial games of the season and made a strong comeback in key matches. In the Q1 game as well as the finale, the Aussie recorded figures of 3 for 34 and 2 for 14. 

KKR to retain Rinku Singh, Varun Chakravarthy and Sunil Narine

Several reports indicate that the reigning champions might go with finisher Rinku Singh, bowling star Varun Chakravarthy and star all-rounder Sunil Narine along with Harshit Rana in the list of retained players. Not only this, but the franchise may also consider retaining Ramandeep Singh as an uncapped player. Narine was retained for INR 6 Crore in 2022 was the MVP in 2024 with his heroics with bat and ball. 

Varun, who became a part of the franchise in 2020 was retained in 2022 for INR 8 Crore and has recorded 41 wickets thus far from the last two seasons. Rinku, on the other hand, has made his way to the Indian team and has a strike rate of 207.97 since 2022. Speaking of Rana, he is a part of India’s Test squad for the forthcoming Australia tour.
