FC Barcelona’s youth academy La Masia has produced some wonderful talents through the course of time including names like Lionel Messi, Sergio Busquests, Xavi Hernandez, etc. In recent years due to financial issues going on around the Spanish club, Barcelona have heavily relied on their academy graduates who are promoted through the ranks into the first team. And one such name which has become a global sensation is Lamine Yamal. On April 29, 2023, Lamine Yamal made his debut for Barcelona at the mere age of 15 years and 9 months. He made history by becoming Barca’s youngest debutant in LaLiga. After turning 16, he was handed his first professional contract with the first team up until 2026.
With only one year left on his current deal, Lamine’s agent Jorge Mendes recently confirmed that the youngster will sign a new contract with the Blaugrana. After having a meeting with the Barcelona board in Lisbon, he said, “Lamine Yamal will sign a new deal at Barca, for sure. That’s guaranteed.”
A superstar on the rise
Lamine Yamal, who is just 17 years of age, currently has cemented his place into the first team at Barcelona. At such a tender age he has already played 35 games for FC Barcelona this season with 11 goals and 16 assists. Yamal has also earned himself a spot in the Spanish national team with his impressive performances at Barcelona. In fact he went on to win the Euros with the Spanish national team last year.
With so much quality in the youngster’s game, Lamine Yamal has already been hailed to be a future superstar in the world of football by many. Yamal is currently in Lisbon, Portugal with the Barcelona squad as they prepare to take on Benfica in the first leg of the round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League.
