It has been recently reported that Liverpool will be looking to offload the Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez in the upcoming transfer window, with multiple potential suitors from the Premier League lurking around. The 25-year old center-forward has not had the best of seasons under the new leadership of Arne Slot as he has only managed 14G/A in 40 games as compared to his 31G/A in the last season under Jurgen Klopp. A reason for this could also be his reduced playing minutes, as the Uruguayan has only played 1882 minutes as compared to 3026 total minutes in the last season.
Two clubs that are heavily linked to Nunez, include Nottingham Forest and Newcastle United. Forest, who are in a Champions League spot currently, will be looking to bolster their attacking department in preparation for European football in the next season. Newcastle on the other hand, will fear losing their star striker Alexander Isak to a transfer away from St. James Park as multiple top clubs are interested in acquiring the services of the forward who is in blistering form this season.
A busy transfer window coming up for Liverpool
Liverpool have been in the midst of a lot of transfer sagas in this season, with news of home-grown right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold moving to Real Madrid almost confirmed. Along with this, there have been multiple other player contracts that remain unresolved. This includes the expiring deals of captain Virgil Van Dijk and star-player Mohammed Salah. While the contract of both these players expires in June 2025, there have been no concrete statements made by the club over potential extensions.
Nunez’s potential exit could become another potential problem for Liverpool as they will have to make multiple signings to fill in all the voids left by the departure of these players. Even in the last transfer window, the only major signing Liverpool made was that of Federico Chiesa.
