Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has commended midfielder Luka Modric amidst his transfer speculations in recent times. Modric, who has been associated with Madrid since 2012, was expected to split with La Liga’s most-successful club during the previous summer. However, recent developments reveal that he is pondering to get his contract with Madrid extended for a year. In the La Liga 2024-25 contest between Real Madrid and Girona at Santiago Bernabeau, the former bagged a convincing victory and Modric contributed to the success with his goal in the 41st minute of the game. 

Following Madrid’s triumph, Carlo Ancelotti spoke on Modric and said the 39-year-old is a gift to football and also compared him with former Italy footballer Maldini. “I had another player who was 40 years old, who was Maldini,” said Ancelotti. Real Madrid Manager also remarked that Luka is a legend and he can decide how much time he wants to spend in the club. "Luka Modric has to continue here as long as he wants. Luka Modric is a gift for football. Everything he does, he does very well, and Real Madrid are lucky to have a legend like him," added the 65-year-old.

Luka, who is 39 currently, has been exceptional for Real Madrid in his 13-year stint with the club. In his long association with the club, he has scored 30 goals in his 383 appearances. He is also an essential member of the Croatian football team as the veteran captains his national side. Modric is aiming to represent his national team in the FIFA World Cup 2026.

Real Madrid to lock horns with Real Sociedad on February 27

Real Madrid will look to continue their brilliant form against Real Sociedad at Anoeta on February 27. Currently, the defending champions are placed in the second spot on the points tally with 54 points earned through 16 wins in 25 matches. Their endeavours will be to depose Barcelona to gain the top spot and retain the title. 

FC Barcelona are currently leading the table with 17 wins in 25 matches. They have gained 54 points thus far. Barca’s defeat tally goes to five which is two more than Madrid. Both Barca and Madrid are scheduled to vie against each other again on May 11, 2025.
