Wayne Rooney, the Plymonth Argyle manager, was left ‘embarrassed’ after his team conceded 10 goals in two games in the Championship, losing in the recent outing versus Bristol City 0-4 at the Ashton Gate. Earlier in the week, Plymouth Argyle lost 1-6 against Norwich City at Carrow Road, and following these two big defeats, Wayne Rooney remarked that it’s arguably been the toughest and hardest week of my managerial career.

Notably, after playing 18 games in the Championship, Plymouth Argyle are just one place above the relegation zone in 21st spot with 17 points and a goal difference of (-20), which is the worst among all the teams in the division. The Pilgrims also have the worst away record of any team in the Championship after losing eight and drawing two of their 10 matches on the road in the 2024-25 season.

These two games arguably have been the toughest and hardest week of my managerial career: Wayne Rooney

In his post-match interview, Wayne Rooney was in quite a sombre mood about Plymouth Argyle’s recent run of results, while talking about how they can get through this. He was quoted as saying, as per BBC, “We have to take it on the chin and hope that we get through this, because the last two games arguably have been the toughest and hardest week of my managerial career. So I need to find a way to get through it, but also get that message through to the players to make sure I lift them.”

After losing for the fourth time with a margin of four goals or more away from home in the Championship, Wayne Rooney was appreciative of the travelling Plymouth Argyle supporters for staying with them in their tough times. He remarked, “I know the support the fans have given us, and they've come here in numbers and it was the same on Tuesday night. It was very difficult walking over and not feel embarrassed to show our appreciation to the fans.”
