The National Rifle Association of India (NRAI) on Saturday, July 1 confirmed India’s shooting squad for the upcoming ISSF World Championships and the Hangzhou Asian Games 2023.
The squad was chosen after the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range in New Delhi hosted the final national selection trials for an elite group of rifle and pistol shooters on Friday. For the World Championships in Baku and the Hangzhou Games, a preliminary team of shotgun shooters was announced beforehand.
A few notable changes include the replacement of Rudrankksh Patil with Hriday Hazarika in the men's air rifle team that will compete in Baku, and Tilottama Sen leaves the women's 10m air rifle team to compete in Hangzhou. At Hangzhou, Ashi Chouksey, who is only listed for the women's 50m 3-position event in Baku, will compete in both events.
Swapnil Kusale, who won the Paris 2024 Olympics quota, will compete in the men's 50m 3P rifle event in Hangzhou beside Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar and Akhil Sheoran, while Niraj Kumar will take his place as the third member of the team in Baku.
India now has a chance to win the second Olympic quota in the competition at the world championships in Baku, where quota spots for Paris 2024 are up for grabs.
