Former Indian cricket captain MS Dhoni reunited with his former teammate and T20 World Cup 2007 hero Joginder Sharma. Sharma took to social media and shared snippets from the meeting, stating that he was really glad to meet Dhoni after 12 years. Notably, Joginder serves as the Deputy Superintendent of Police in Haryana Police, and was seen wearing the police uniform while the latter was seen sporting a casual look.
Sharma shared pictures with former India captain and accompanied them with a caption,” It was nice to meet Mahi after a very long time. The fun of meeting you after almost 12 years was different today.” Notably, Joginder became nation’s hero during the inaugural T20 World Cup in 2007, played in South Africa. The right-arm pacer bowled the last overs in the semi-finals against Australia and final against Pakistan.
In the final, Sharma bowled the last over and defended 12 runs despite Misbah-ul-Haq hitting him for a six off the first delivery. The Dhoni-led brigade won the match by five runs and lifted the first T20 World Cup, marking Dhoni’s first big win as India’s captain. Later, the Ranchi-born went on to become one of the most successful captains in cricketing history.
Speaking of Joginder Sharma, he played four T20Is and as many ODIs for India. The 40-year-old was also a part of Chennai Super Kings in the Indian Premier League. The Rohtak-born represented Haryana in 77 first-class matches and 80 List-A games, where he took 297 and 115 wickets, respectively. Sharma hit 2,804 first-class runs and announced his retirement from all formats of international and domestic cricket in February 2023.
