Veteran of the sport of tennis, Brit, Andy Murray on Tuesday, July 23 confirmed that the upcoming Paris Olympics 2024 will be his last tennis tournament. Murray, who became the first man to win two singles gold medals at the Olympics, took to social media to announce his retirement from professional tennis.
However, the veteran earlier in December 2023 quashed retirement talks, he has been in news this year after he spoke that it might his last tournaments this year. "Arrived in Paris for my last-ever tennis tournament @Olympics. Competing for Great Britain have been by far the most memorable weeks of my career and I'm extremely proud to get to do it one final time!" Murray wrote in his post on X, formerly Twitter.
The 37-year-old recently received an emotional farewell at the Wimbledon 2024 after he lost his opening round along with his brother Jamie Murray in men’s doubles. He thereafter withdrew from the men’s singles after undergoing a spinal cyst removal surgery, he was forced to end the campaign after his mixed doubles pair, Emma Raducanu pulled out of the event, just hours prior to the match.
The Brit won the Olympic gold in men’s singles in 2012 and defended the title in 2016. He also won the mixed doubles silver at London 2012. Apart from his historic performance in the Olympics, he has won two Wimbledon titles, which came in 2013 and 2016. The former World No. 1 also lifted the Roland Garros in 2016 to taste his first and only victory on the clay.
