NBA on April 15 (Saturday) announced that former Charlotte Hornets starter Miles Bridges has been suspended for 30 games in relation to his domestic abuse charge which involved his then girlfriend. The incident, which took place on June 27 last year in Los Angeles, saw Bridges being arrested on multiple char ges.
However, he was arrested on June 29 by Los Angeles police, the 25-year-old was then released on a USD130,000 bond. The NBA star entered a plea of no contest in November last year. As part of his probation, Bridges is required to complete 52 weeks of domestic violence counseling and 52 weeks of parenting classes.
Along with the abovementioned requirements, he has to serve 100 hours of community service and undergo weekly narcotics testing with marijuana allowed only if there is a valid doctor's prescription. The charges also include a $500 fine and a 10-year protective order of staying 100 yards away from his girlfriend.
Following this incident, Miles Bridges did not sign a contract for the following season and missed all 82 games and the NBA considers 20 out of the 30-game suspension already served. The NBA carried out its own independent investigation which involved consulting with domestic violence experts and said in a statement, “The 30-game suspension is based on all facts and circumstances of this matter and considers its conduct and its result as well as the outcome of the criminal matter, among other factors.”
The player still remains unsigned and last played in the 2021-22 season. He will be fined 1/110th of his salary of the new contract from each of the ten games he plays in the upcoming season.
