Newcastle United are reportedly planning to sign Southampton goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale in the upcoming summer transfer window with their manager Eddie Howe revealed to be a big fan of him. It is understood that after Southampton were officially relegated from the Premier League with weeks remaining in the ongoing 2024-25 season, there is an expectation around their star player Aaron Ramsdale leaving them in the summer.
As per the sources associated with Football Insider, Newcastle United are weighing-up the options in regards to meeting the relegation release clause of Aaron Ramsdale, which is worth around £25 million, especially with the player in high demand elsewhere. Leeds United are also interested in making the 26-year-old their new number if they are promoted to the Premier League next season from the Championship.
Bournemouth interested in bringing back Aaron Ramsdale in the summer
It is important to note that Bournemouth, the former club of Aaron Ramsdale, where he was coached by Eddie Howe, are also keen on trying to bring him back to the club next season as well. Moreover, Newcastle United arguably have the better chance among all of them to land the signature of Aaron Ramsdale because of their impressive recent form in all competition and sufficient backing from the hierarchy.
The current top two goalkeepers at Newcastle United are Nick Pope and Martin Dubravka, who are 33 and 36 years of age respectively, which is why the North East England club could push a little extra to get the Aaron Ramsdale deal done despite their financial constraints. As far as the form of the English goalkeeper is concerned, he has been conceding a lot of goals in the ongoing season for Southampton, but his defense hasn’t helped his cause either.
