The Ko lkata Knight Riders vice-captain, Nitish Rana, is unlikely to play for the team in the next few matches in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. The 30-year-old had suffered a finger injury during the IPL opener for KKR at the Eden Gardens last month, and since then, he is yet to be picked by the team management.
During his only appearance in the IPL 2024 season, Nitish Rana scored nine runs off 11 balls for Kolkata Knight Riders against Sunrisers Hyderabad at home. But, it was the fielding innings for KKR, when he suffered the finger injury, following which, there has been no involvement of him in the playing XI or the impact substitutes bench in the next three matches.
The RevSportz journalist, Subhayan Chakraborty, took to his official X account to give the latest update on the condition of Nitish Rana. He posted a picture of the KKR player, accompanied by a caption, which read, “Nitish Rana's fingers are still heavily taped. Unlikely to play the next couple of rounds of matches. #IPL2024”
Notably, during the IPL 2023, Nitish Rana captained Kolkata Knight Riders in the absence of their regular captain Shreyas Iyer, who was ruled out of the tournament due to an injury. Under his leadership, KKR had an underwhelming season, finishing in seventh place with just six wins in 14 matches.
Despite the tough season for Kolkata Knight Riders, Nitish Rana performed quite impressively with the bat, scoring 413 runs in 14 matches, with an average of 31.77 and a strike rate of 140.96. He was the second-highest scorer in the last season for KKR, behind Rinku Singh, who had a breakout season with the franchise last year.
