The Indian opening batter Prithvi Shaw, who hasn’t played for the national team in the last two years, put together a masterful display of batsmanship during the Metro Bank One Day Cup on August 9, Wednesday. He scored a double century for Northamptonshire against Somerset, helping his side win the match comfortably with a margin of 87 runs at the County Ground, Northampton.

Shortly afterward, the 23-year-old talked about how he isn’t thinking about what the Indian selectors may be thinking about him, especially while the batter has been out of favour from the Indian team for a long time. He also appreciated Northamptonshire for giving him the opportunity to play cricket at the club, something which he is really enjoying right now.

Prithvi Shaw was quoted as saying, after Northamptonshire defeated Somerset by 87 runs, “Definitely (here for the) experience for sure. Not really thinking what the Indian selectors may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here. Northamptonshire have given me this opportunity... they're really looking after me. I'm really enjoying it.”

The 244 off 153 balls from the Thane-born cricketer was filled with 28 fours and 11 maximums, which helped Northamptonshire finish with a mammoth total of 415/8 in their fifty overs. While analysing his innings, Prithvi Shaw said, “The sun was out, it was kind of like Indian weather today (Wednesday) so it was really looking good. I wasn't thinking about anything.”

“You know when an inside edge doesn't get me out, that means this day is for me. You have to be lucky sometimes, so I think this was a day for me. I didn't look back after that. When I got 150 I thought I was timing the ball really well and this could be the day to go bigger," the 23-year-old added.
